TAPS or 'the pipeline'. TAPS is 800 miles long (1,300km) starting in Prudhoe Bay and ending in Valdez. There are 12 pumping stations to move the hot oil to Valdez. It is around 120f (44c) when it leaves Prudhoe Bay, It cools as it makes its 12 day journey to Valdez. TAPS is above ground when the hot oil would damage the permafrost and underground when that is feasible. These are heat registers to dissipate the heat by the hot oil flowing through TAPS.
